Governors
Governors support the Headteacher, staff, children and parents. They ensure that our school provides a safe, caring and stimulating learning environment that challenges the children.
They endorse the strong teamwork and whole school approach to learning which enables all children to achieve their best within the curriculum and gain confidence in their personal and social independence.
Governors have the overall responsibility for legal and financial matters, policies, appointments and monitoring achievement.
Currently we have a Governing Body of 7 members (plus vacancies) comprised of a range of people. Between them the aim is to bring a range of both skills and experience to the governing body, which will ensure that balanced and carefully considered decisions are made. Please see the information below for more details about Chilton Primary School Governors.

Mr G Kenworthy
Chair of Governors
I have been Chair of Governors at Chilton Primary for just over two years and a school governor since 2015. I’m a retired primary school teacher, having taught in Liverpool, Suffolk and Essex.
Originally from Ipswich, I trained as a teacher in the West Midlands where I met my wife. We lived in Liverpool for ten years before moving to Stowmarket in 1988, shortly before our son was born.
I volunteer with the RSPB, the Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich, the Ipswich Children’s Book Group and the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway. I enjoy the outdoors and walking and I’m a keen reader who loves chatting with children and staff about the books they’re reading. I regularly write book reviews which are published online.
I visit school as often as I can and enjoy supporting both staff and children in all they do at Chilton.
Mr B Shaw
Staff Governor
I’m proud to be the Deputy Head Teacher at our school, having taught for over four years across Years 2, 3, 4 and 5. Before moving to Stowmarket, I spent most of my life in Essex, where I was LKS2 Phase Lead in Tiptree.
In 2022–2023, I completed a National Professional Qualification in Leading Behaviour and Culture, which I aim to use to positively influence our school’s ethos. I’m passionate about enriching the wider curriculum and you’ll often find me coaching sports clubs or supporting after-school competitions.
Before entering education, I worked as a Senior Store Manager for a retail brand, leading improvement projects and turning around underperforming stores across the company.
Ms L Mallon
Trust Governor
I bring a wide range of experience across financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing, public service, not-for-profit and education. I’m a Chartered Member of the CIPD and hold an MSc. in Occupational Psychology, a psychology degree and an honours degree in French and English. I’m also certified in psychometric testing by the British Psychological Society.
Throughout my career, I’ve held senior roles in HR, training and management development at organisations including Citigroup, the Irish State Telecommunications Company and FÁS, Ireland’s employment and training authority. I’ve also taught psychology and leadership programmes at university level, including with the Open University and Lowestoft College.
I’m passionate about education, leadership and people development, and I’m proud to support the school community in my role as governor.
James Christopher
Trust Governor
I have been a governor of the school since November 2023 and was recently appointed Vice Chair. I completed my undergraduate degree in Sports Technology at Loughborough University before training as a teacher at the University of East Anglia, where I gained my PGCE in Primary Education in 2013.
Since qualifying, I have taught at Whitehouse School in Ipswich, working across a range of year groups in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Over the years I have led several curriculum areas, including PE, Computing and History. I am currently the Maths Lead for the school.
I greatly enjoy my role as a governor and am proud to have contributed to, and witnessed, the school’s continued progress during my time on the governing body.
